PE Antistatic Masterbatch

PE antistatic masterbatch is a functional masterbatch utilizing polyethylene as the carrier; it is available in two types: migratory (short-term effect) and permanent (long-term effect).

When added to PE resin, it reduces the surface resistivity of the finished product, thereby eliminating issues such as dust attraction caused by static electricity and film blocking (sticking).

The migratory type is cost-effective and commonly used for general packaging films and injection-molded parts. The permanent type is unaffected by humidity, making it suitable for antistatic electronics packaging and compatible with various processing methods, including film blowing, injection molding, and blow molding.

Detail
PE Antistatic Masterbatch
一、Basic Definition
PE antistatic masterbatch is a functional masterbatch produced via twin-screw extrusion, utilizing polyethylene (PE) as the carrier and incorporating antistatic active ingredients and dispersing aids. It is specifically designed to be added to LDPE, LLDPE, and HDPE resins to reduce surface resistivity and eliminate static accumulation, thereby addressing issues such as dust attraction, film blocking, printing misalignment, and electrostatic discharge (sparking).

Appearance: Milky white or slightly yellowish cylindrical pellets

Carrier: LDPE/LLDPE/HDPE; offers excellent compatibility with PE base materials and allows for direct dry-blending during production.

二、 Two Main Types and Mechanisms
1. Migratory Type (Short-term/Standard Grade – most common on the market)
Active Ingredients: Non-ionic antistatic agents (e.g., ethoxylated amines, glycerol monostearate). Mechanism: The additives slowly migrate to the plastic surface, where they adsorb atmospheric moisture to form a conductive water film that dissipates static charges. ✅Pros: Low dosage, good transparency, low cost

❌Cons: Performance heavily influenced by ambient humidity; effectiveness diminishes after washing or friction (not permanently antistatic). Finished product surface resistivity: 10⁸–10¹¹ Ω (dust-proof/anti-adsorption grade)

2. Long-lasting/Permanent Antistatic Masterbatch
Active ingredients: Polymer-based permanent antistatic agents, carbon nanotubes, graphene, or other conductive components. Mechanism: Establishes stable conductive pathways within the resin matrix; does not rely on moisture absorption to function.

✅Pros: Performance unaffected by humidity; resistant to washing and friction; long-lasting stability; suitable for electronic component packaging (ESD protection)

❌Cons: High dosage required; relatively high cost; carbon black versions turn the product black (though polymer-based versions can be transparent). Finished product surface resistivity: 10⁶–10⁹ Ω (electronic ESD packaging grade)

⚠️Selection Guide: Choose migratory types for general dust-proof blown film; choose permanent types for electronic components and explosion-proof products.

三、 Key Advantages
✅Uniform dispersion; minimizes localized static issues
✅Compatible with all PE grades: LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE
✅Strong processing versatility: suitable for blown film, cast film, injection molding, blow molding, and fiber drawing
✅Transparent versions have minimal impact on film haze; food-grade models available for food packaging
✅Can be compounded with antioxidants and light stabilizers

四、 Recommended Dosage (General Migratory Type)
PE blown film (courier bags, general packaging film): 3–5%
PE injection molded parts: 2–4%
High-transparency film, food bags: 5–8%
Permanent/long-lasting types: 10–25% (dosage increases as target resistivity decreases)
Note: Excessive dosage may lead to surface oiliness or blooming (white powder precipitation)

五、 Suitable Products
PE films: Courier bags, packaging film, protective film, geomembranes, agricultural film
Injection molded products: PE turnover boxes, plastic crates, bottle caps, containers
Blow molded products: Plastic drums, chemical storage tanks
Electronic ESD packaging bags, dust-proof packaging bags

PE Flat yarn, woven bags

六、 Processing & Storage Precautions
Can be physically blended directly with PE pellets; no pre-drying required (though drying is recommended in humid environments).
Avoid use with acidic additives, as this may cause the antistatic agent to lose effectiveness.
Packaged in 25 kg paper-plastic bags; store in a cool, dry place. Shelf life of the migratory masterbatch is approximately 8 months.
